One of the best parts about a global pandemic is the breakdown of previous physical barriers that kept experiences like seeing every product at a trade show merely impossible. CES 2021 is admittedly not as exciting as browsing the trade show floor at the convention center here in Las Vegas, Nevada, but, none the less, companies are still showing off what they’ve been working on. One company that stuck out to me was Living Packets.

One of the standout products last year came back to CES this year. The 2020 Innovation Award winner found a way to innovate on one of the most essential elements of e-commerce, the cardboard box. Living Packet re-invented a cardboard box in a way that integrates practical technology while eliminating a wasteful bi product. The box is a plug and play solution that packers can easily implement into their existing workflows. The boxes even fold down for easy storing while not being used.

The philosophy behind THE BOX is that with every delivery they occurring a small service fee. Because the boxes are resusable, companies only have to pay for using them. This means that basic package doesn’t cost more than a traditional cardboard box. It’s a win for consumers too. Because of the way the holding system was designed, the BOX makes bubble wrap and filling material obsolete. Finally, no more packing peanuts flying around the house!

It will be interesting going forward to see if companies are willing to begin implementing a more reusable product like this now that such a focus has been put on e-commerece waste. I think the real change will happen when consumers begin to demand companies implement innovative products like this.
